About Upstate Asbestos Abatement

Upstate Asbestos Abatement was built around a simple observation: the Greenville-Spartanburg-Anderson corridor has more pre-1980 housing and commercial stock per capita than most of the South, almost all of it contains asbestos somewhere, and most homeowners and small commercial owners have nowhere honest to turn when they find it.

The big abatement firms in this region are mostly built around large commercial and industrial work — mill conversions, school district contracts, BMW-corridor industrial projects. That work matters and we do it. But the mill village homeowner in Judson who found vermiculite in the attic, the Augusta Road family scraping a popcorn ceiling, the Simpsonville flipper who hit black mastic under the kitchen tile — those people deserve the same disciplined approach to testing, containment, and clearance that the big commercial jobs get. We built this company to bring that standard to residential and small commercial work across the Upstate.

Licensing and Compliance

Upstate Asbestos Abatement is a South Carolina DHEC-licensed asbestos contractor. Our project supervisors hold current SC accreditation and EPA AHERA certifications. Our field workers complete OSHA-required annual asbestos refresher training and carry current respirator fit-test records and medical clearances.

Every project we run complies with:

  • EPA NESHAP (40 CFR Part 61 Subpart M) for notification, removal, and disposal
  • OSHA 1926.1101 (construction industry) for worker protection
  • OSHA 1910.1001 for general industry where applicable
  • SC DHEC Bureau of Air Quality Regulation 61-86.1 state-level asbestos requirements
  • AHERA (Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act) for school work
  • DOT waste transport requirements for manifested disposal

We carry pollution liability insurance specifically written for asbestos abatement. We name general contractors, project owners, and property owners as additional insureds when contracts require it.

What We Believe

Test first, decide second. Removal isn’t always the right answer. We won’t recommend abatement on stable, undisturbed, non-friable material that doesn’t need disturbing.

Containment is not optional. Wet methods, HEPA filtration, negative air, decon units, and clearance air sampling are run on every job — single popcorn ceiling or full mill renovation.

Documentation is part of the deliverable. You receive lab results, manifests, clearance reports, and a clean closeout package. That documentation matters at sale, refinance, and audit.
